A local Funeral Directors are doing their bit to spread festive cheer by delivering Christmas cards on behalf of vulnerable people.
Eaves Funeral Service based in High Road, Whitehaven, have set up four postboxes across the areas of Kells, Seacliffe, Woodhouse and Greenbank where people who are unable to get out and about to deliver their own cards because they have mobility issues, are housebound, or are struggling with the cost of living can drop their seasonal greetings in addressed envelopes, or arrange for someone to do it on their behalf.
The team at Eaves will then collect the cards on Friday, December 15, before delivering them over the weekend, ensuring they all reach the right place in time for the big day.
Mike Jolly, Business Principal at Eaves, said: “We wanted to be able to help those in our local community who are unable to get out and about to deliver their greetings cards in the area.
“There’s many who don’t have transport, are ill, housebound or vulnerable, but we didn’t want them to miss out on sending and receiving cards.
“These cards mean so much at this time of year for a lot of people so we thought it’d be a good idea to do our bit.
“We’ve had a great response to the idea, and we hope we can help lots and lots of people.
“We are proud of our role in the community and wanted to do something a little extra over the Christmas period.”
The collection points are located in High Road Store, Seacliffe Pharmacy, also in High Road and Budgens, and Premier Express – both in Woodhouse Road.
