Funeral service moves into refurbished home to continue to serve Godalming families

A funeral service which launched last year has moved into their new permanent home to improve their already outstanding offer to families.

Godalming Funeral Service, which opened last year, is operated by Senior Funeral Director Paul Weightman and his son Anghus – a respected Funeral Director in his own right.

The team have been supporting clients from the second branch in Woodbridge Hill, Guildford, following a merger with James & Thomas Funeral Directors giving local communities two funeral homes to choose from, allowing us to be more accessible and serve more families across Godalming and Guilford.

The pair, who have a combined total of more than 50 years’ industry experience, are based primarily at the funeral home in Bridge Road, Godalming, following an extensive refurbishment of the building.

The site, which was previously occupied by a chiropractor, also functioned as a funeral home, where Paul worked for many years of his funeral career, before it closed in 1990.

The doors of the new branch were officially opened on Friday by councillor Paul Rivers, Deputy Mayor of Godalming, and councillor Penny River, Mayor of Waverley following a dedication by the Rev Adam Payne, Minister of Godalming United Church.

Paul said: “The building is unrecognisable compared to just a few months ago and is now a new, comfortable and welcoming environment for the families we are committed to serving.

“I’d like to thank Funeral Partners, our parent company, for the investment they have made in creating a funeral home we all are very proud of and will enable us to continue to support the bereaved communities of Godalming and Guilford with our new and modern facilities.”

The team at Godalming Funeral Service has already received outstanding feedback from families praising them for the sensitivity and professionalism they show every day.

Since launching, the team has held an ethos to be at the heart of the local community which has seen them give donations of Official King Charles Coronation Roses and Father’s Day gifts to a number of nearby care homes, provide prizes for local events and donate to the Godalming Food Store – a community run foodbank.

They are also proud sponsors of Godalming in Bloom, one of the Summer Sunday Community Concerts, to be held at the Godalming Bandstand in September featuring The Band of the Surrey Yeomanry and two beautiful flower troughs in town.

Paul added: “We are really proud of what we have accomplished so far, both in terms of helping families who have suffered loss and through our work with the wider community.

“Should anyone in the Godalming area wish to find out more about what we do, they are welcome to visit us in our new Bridge Road premises.”
